As of June 4 2011 the official Guinness World’s Record recognizes the Trinidad Scorpion “Butch T” as the hottest pepper in the world, which was tested at 1,463,700 SHU. The name ButchT is after Butch Taylor, the person credited with originally discovering this strain. Originally Butch was growing out the the 7pot/pod Jonah strain and noticed a pod variation and saved the seed.
